PREPARING A TOP FOR LONG ARM MACHINE QUILTING

  1. Do not baste or pin layers together.  Remove all pins.
  2. Batts and backs must be a total of 6 inches larger all around than the top.
  3. Wash, press seams, trim selvages, and square off ends of backs.
  4. To avoid outer stitches popping open, stitch around entire piece 1/8th inch in from edges.
  5. Press often and well, tops and backs.
  6. To prevent flaring of borders, measure inner part of top and cut border strips to match.  Do this for each addition.
  7. Think about the back early in construction for suitable fabric, color of thread for quilting, quilting pattern, whether quilting should show or not, etc.
  8. Trim away as many threads as possible.
  9. Clearly mark your quilt with name, address, phone number, and all pertinent information.
  10. Give as much lead time as possible.
  11. If using sheets for backing, consult us for advice on what is acceptable before you buy them.
  12. Contact Catherine via email or phone her at 563-252-2750 before sending your quilt.  Be sure to enclose your quilt top in a plastic bag with a completed order form and place this in a box for mailing.  (The post office provides boxes when you are using Priority Mail.)
