THE GUTTENBERG PRESS (April 3, 2003)

Watching the fingers of the women she loved sew, knit and crochet, Catherine began her journey as a fabric artist.  The former cosmetologist and care-giver for the developmentally disabled operates Quiltprint, offering custom machine quilting and screen printed fabric panels.
Married to a high school science teacher and mother to three children, Catherine had dabbled in woodworking and rosemulling before quilting.  Her love affair with the art was sealed with a surprise gift from her husband -- a ticket to attend the national convention of the American Quilt Society in Paducah, KY.
With the mission of “enhancing your workmanship through partnership with unique quilting designs,” Catherine knows the amount of time, energy, and love that goes into making each quilt top, and is extremely quality conscious.  She purchased a Millenium quilting machine, made in Iowa by American Professional Quilt Systems, that easily maneuvers a 14-foot long king-size quilt with 8 to 15 stitches per inch.
Edge to edge quilting is the most basic and least costly option for finishing quilt tops.  Clients can choose from many continuous designs known as pantographs -- or they can choose custom quilting.  Many quilts are enhanced by creative designs that add to the beauty of the finished project.
T-shirt quilts are a wonderful gift for high school or college graduations.  Anniversary quilts are often pieced from blocks that have been personalized by family members that document the milestones of a couple’s years together.  Photo transfers are becoming popular when creating a specialized quilt top.
There are no two quilts alike and Catherine “is up to the challenge” of enhancing the customer’s workmanship with beautiful quilt stitches.  She also finds and shares ideas as a member of several quilt guilds and involvement with “quilting sisters” on the World Wide Web.  Quiltprint is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, or 24 hours a day at “www.quiltprint.net” on the Internet.
